Fishing string is commonly referred to as fishing line. There are several types, including monofilament, braided, and fluorocarbon lines. Each type offers different benefits, like strength, flexibility, and visibility in water. Some people also use terms like fish wire or tippet depending on the fishing style or region. When shopping, you'll see these names used to describe products designed for various fishing conditions and preferences.

The strength of fishing line is measured by its test rating, which indicates how much weight it can handle before breaking. You'll find lines ranging from just a few pounds for light freshwater fishing up to over 100 pounds for heavy saltwater catches. Factors like material (monofilament, braided, or fluorocarbon), thickness, and strand count all affect strength. Always match the line's strength to the type of fish and environment you're targeting for best results.

1. Thread the stringer through the fish's gills and mouth, or use the clip if it has one.
2. Secure the stringer to a fixed point, like a boat or dock.
3. Keep the fish in the water to maintain freshness while you continue fishing.

Fish stringers are handy for keeping your catch alive and organized. Make sure to check local regulations about keeping fish on stringers and always handle fish carefully to avoid injury.

Fish wire is another term people use for fishing line, especially when referring to strong, thin strands used in angling. While 'fishing line' is the standard term, 'fish wire' might be used for braided or heavy-duty lines. Both are designed to connect your hook or lure to your rod, but the materials and thickness can vary depending on the fishing style and target species.

Yes, you can use fishing line in saltwater, but it's important to choose a line that's designed for those conditions.

• Braided and monofilament lines are popular for saltwater fishing due to their durability.
• Saltwater can cause wear and tear, so look for lines with high abrasion resistance.
• After fishing, rinse your line and gear with fresh water to help extend their lifespan.
