Setting up a scanner is pretty straightforward. Start by connecting the scanner to your computer using the included USB cable or, if it's wireless, follow the manufacturer's instructions to connect to Wi-Fi. Next, install any required software or drivers—these are usually available on the manufacturer's website or included on a CD. Once installed, open the scanning software and follow the prompts to test your first scan. Tip: Make sure your computer meets the system requirements for the scanner to avoid compatibility issues.

Most modern scanners are designed to handle both photos and documents. Flatbed scanners are great for delicate photos, while sheet-fed models work well for stacks of documents. If you want to digitize old photos, look for a scanner with high resolution and color accuracy. For documents, features like duplex scanning and fast page-per-minute rates can make the process quicker.

• Check the product specs for supported media types.
• Use the right settings for each scan to get the best results.

Keeping your scanner clean helps maintain image quality and prevents jams.

1. Turn off and unplug the scanner before cleaning.
2. Use a soft, lint-free cloth to wipe the glass surface.
3. Avoid harsh chemicals—use a little water or a gentle glass cleaner.
4. Clean the exterior with a dry cloth.

Many scanners offer duplex scanning, which lets you scan both sides of a document in one pass. If your scanner supports this, select the duplex option in the scanning software before starting. For scanners without this feature, you'll need to scan one side, flip the document, and scan the other.

• Check your scanner's manual for step-by-step instructions.
• Make sure pages are properly aligned to avoid misfeeds.

Some scanners are compatible with mobile devices, especially wireless models. To connect, download the manufacturer's app from your device's app store and follow the setup instructions. This lets you scan documents or photos directly to your phone or tablet, making it easy to share or store files. Note: Compatibility varies, so check the product details to see if your device is supported.
