The main difference comes down to how you use them:

• Electric blankets are designed to go on top of you, like a regular blanket or throw. You snuggle under them for direct warmth.
• Electric underblankets are meant to be placed on top of your mattress but under your sheets. They gently warm the bed from below, creating a cozy sleeping surface.

Both types offer adjustable heat settings and auto shut-off features, but underblankets are focused on pre-warming your bed, while electric blankets are for wrapping up and relaxing.

Most electric underblankets are designed with safety in mind and include features like auto shut-off timers and overheat protection. Here are a few tips for safe use:

• Always follow the manufacturer's instructions and safety guidelines.
• Look for blankets with certifications from recognized testing agencies.
• Don’t use the blanket if it’s damaged or the cord is frayed.
• Unplug the blanket when not in use or if you notice anything unusual.

If you have specific health concerns, it’s a good idea to check with a medical professional before using any heated bedding.

Heated underblankets are generally energy efficient. The actual electricity used depends on the blanket’s wattage, your heat setting, and how long you use it. For example:

• Most use less power than a small space heater.
• Lower heat settings and shorter use times help keep costs down.
• Many models have timers and auto shut-off to avoid unnecessary energy use.

For a more exact estimate, check the product’s wattage and multiply by your local electricity rate. This can help you compare options and manage your energy use.

Choosing the right size is easy if you know your mattress size. Here’s what to keep in mind:

• Match the underblanket to your bed size—twin, full, queen, or king.
• Check the product dimensions to make sure it fits your mattress without hanging over the edges.
• Some underblankets come with dual controls for larger sizes, letting two people adjust heat separately.

Measuring your mattress before shopping can help you find the perfect fit for your bed.

Many electric underblankets are machine washable, but it’s important to:

• Always disconnect the power cord and controller before washing.
• Follow the care instructions on the label or in the manual.
• Use a gentle cycle and mild detergent.
• Let the blanket air dry completely before plugging it back in.

Proper care helps keep your underblanket clean and working well for seasons to come.
