That adjustable cord is commonly called a drawstring. You’ll also hear it referred to as a waist tie or waist cord.

• Purpose: It helps customize the fit of elastic-waist sweatpants without a belt.
• Styles: Flat or round cords, placed inside or outside the waistband, depending on the design.
• Materials: Often cotton, polyester, or a blend for durability and comfort.
• Ends: The little tips at the ends are called aglets; they reduce fraying and make threading easier.

On our drawstring sweatpants pages, product photos and descriptions typically show whether the cord is internal or external for quick comparison.

Rethreading can be simple with a few household tools. Results can vary by waistband width and fabric.

1. Attach a guide: Pin a safety pin to one end of the drawstring (or use a small bodkin).
2. Feed through channel: Push the pin into one waistband opening and work it through by bunching and smoothing the fabric.
3. Even the ends: When the pin emerges from the other opening, pull until both ends are balanced.
4. No drawstring? Consider a flat replacement cord or a soft shoelace similar in width.
5. Prevent pull-through: Tie small knots near the tips or use aglets to keep it secure.

Check product details for waistband construction; some styles have wider channels that make this easier.

Drawstring pants use a cord to adjust the waist for a flexible, comfortable fit. In this category, that often means joggers or sweatpants designed for lounging, workouts, or casual wear.

• Waist: Elastic waistband with an adjustable drawstring, internal or external.
• Leg styles: Cuffed joggers or open-bottom sweats; tapered, straight, or wide leg.
• Features: Options may include pockets (some with zippers), lightweight or fleece fabrics, and inclusive size ranges.
• Fit approach: Choose your typical size, then fine-tune with the drawstring for comfort.

Product descriptions and photos on the page can help you compare styles and features before you pick a pair.

An internal drawstring offers a clean look and can be more practical for active wear.

• Snag reduction: Keeping the cord inside may help reduce catching on equipment or zippers.
• Comfort: Less bulk at the front, which can feel smoother under tops.
• Style: A minimal, streamlined waistband that pairs easily with tees and hoodies.
• Variation: Some styles place drawstrings outside for a sportier look and quick adjustments.

Photos and details on each product page usually show placement clearly, so you can pick the style that matches your preference and use.

Start with your body measurements and the product’s size info, then use the drawstring to fine-tune.

• Measure: Compare your waist and hip measurements to the size chart on the product page.
• Consider fit: Joggers are typically tapered; wide-leg or open-bottom styles feel roomier.
• Rise & length: High-rise vs. low-rise affects where they sit; check inseam for the best drape.
• Fabric notes: Fleece and cotton blends can feel snugger; care routines may affect feel over time.
• Between sizes? Choosing the roomier option can add comfort, then adjust with the drawstring.
