Choosing the right size crate depends on your dog's weight and height. Measure your dog from nose to tail and from floor to top of their head while standing. Add a few inches to each measurement for comfort. Most crates list weight limits and dimensions, so compare your dog's size to the product details. A crate should be roomy enough for your dog to stand, turn around, and lie down comfortably, but not so large that it feels unsafe or encourages accidents.

Many dog crates are designed for travel, especially those labeled as portable or airline-friendly.

• Plastic hard-sided carriers are often accepted by airlines, but always check their specific requirements.
• Foldable metal crates are great for car trips and easy storage.

To clean a dog crate, start by removing bedding and toys.

1. Take out the tray or pan if it’s removable.
2. Wash all surfaces with mild soap and warm water.
3. Rinse thoroughly and let everything dry before reassembling.

Some dog crates include dividers, which are handy for puppies or growing dogs.

• Dividers let you adjust the crate’s space as your dog grows, helping with training and comfort.
• Check the product description to see if a divider is included or available as an accessory.

To make your dog’s crate cozy, add soft bedding or a crate mat that fits the dimensions.

• Include familiar toys or a blanket for comfort.
• Ensure proper ventilation and avoid overcrowding the space.
