There are a few reasons why copper pipe isn't as common as it used to be in some projects:

• Material cost: Copper prices can be higher compared to alternatives like PEX or PVC, which can impact overall project budgets.
• Installation: Copper requires soldering or special fittings, while some newer materials are easier and faster to install.
• Corrosion: In certain water conditions, copper can corrode over time, though it's generally durable.

Even so, copper is still valued for its reliability and is widely used in plumbing, HVAC, and refrigeration.

Copper and PVC pipes both have their strengths, and the right choice depends on your project:

• Durability: Copper is known for its long lifespan and resistance to high temperatures, making it great for hot water lines.
• Installation: PVC is lighter and often easier to cut and join, which can speed up installation.
• Usage: Copper is often used in plumbing and HVAC, while PVC is common for drain lines and irrigation.

Consider your specific needs, local building codes, and installation preferences when choosing between the two.

The price of copper pipe can vary based on size, type, and market conditions. Generally, copper tends to cost more than plastic alternatives like PEX or PVC. However, many people choose copper for its durability and long-term value. If you're working on a budget, you might want to compare different materials and sizes to find the best fit for your project. Shopping at Walmart can help you find a range of options to suit your needs.

The most common types of copper pipe used in plumbing and HVAC are:

• Type K: Thickest walls, often used for underground or heavy-duty applications.
• Type L: Medium wall thickness, popular for interior plumbing and HVAC systems.
• Type M: Thinner walls, typically used for residential water lines where code allows.

Each type is designed for specific uses, so check local codes and your project requirements before choosing.

Choosing the right copper pipe size depends on what you're working on. Here are a few tips:

• Check your project needs: Plumbing, HVAC, and refrigeration may require different diameters.
• Look at flow requirements: Larger pipes handle more water or air, while smaller pipes are for lower flow.
• Consult local codes: Building codes often specify minimum sizes for certain applications.
