Hooks used on chains are commonly referred to as chain hooks. There are several types, including clevis grab hooks, slip hooks, S-hooks, and snap hooks. Each type serves a specific purpose, like securing loads, connecting chains, or providing quick attachment points. When shopping for chain hooks, it's important to check the working load limit (WLL) and ensure compatibility with your chain size and intended use. Walmart offers a variety of chain hooks for towing, lifting, and hanging applications, so you can find the right fit for your project.

• Clevis Grab Hooks: Designed to grab and hold chain links securely, often used for towing and transport.
• Slip Hooks: Feature a wider opening and usually include a safety latch, making them ideal for connecting chains or attaching to anchor points.
• S-Hooks: Simple, versatile hooks for hanging items or connecting lightweight chains.
• Snap Hooks: Equipped with a spring-loaded gate for quick attachment and release, commonly used in lifting and rigging.

Each type offers unique benefits depending on your needs, so consider your project requirements when choosing a chain hook.

Trailer chain hooks are generally permitted for towing, but it's important to follow local regulations and safety guidelines. Always use hooks that match the working load limit for your trailer and chains. Many hooks, like clevis grab hooks and slip hooks with safety latches, are designed specifically for trailer safety chains. Check for proper fit and secure attachment to prevent accidental disconnection during transport. For specific legal requirements, it's a good idea to consult your state's Department of Transportation or local authorities.

To connect two chains, you can use quick links, chain connectors, or clevis hooks. Quick links feature a threaded closure that lets you securely join chain ends. Clevis hooks can also be used if they fit the chain size and application. Make sure the connector matches the chain's diameter and working load limit to ensure safe use. Walmart carries several options for chain connectors, so you can find the right solution for your project, whether it's for towing, lifting, or hanging.

When picking a chain hook size, start by matching the hook's opening to your chain's diameter. Check the working load limit (WLL) to make sure it meets your safety needs. Hooks come in various sizes, such as 1/4", 3/8", or 1/2", and are made from different grades of steel for strength. Consider your intended use—whether it's towing, lifting, or hanging—to select the best hook type and size. If you're unsure, review product descriptions or ask a Walmart associate for guidance to help you find the safest option.
