Choosing the right size trash bag depends on your trash can's capacity and shape. Here’s a quick guide:

• Check your can’s gallon size: Most kitchen cans use 13-gallon bags, while larger cans may need 30-gallon or more.
• Measure your can: If you’re unsure, measure the height and width of your can and compare it to the bag’s dimensions on the package.
• Consider bag type: Tall kitchen bags are great for upright cans, while large or multi-purpose bags fit bigger bins.

Matching the bag size to your can helps prevent slipping and messy spills.

Drawstring and flap tie bags offer different ways to close and carry your trash:

• Drawstring bags: Feature built-in strings that let you easily cinch the bag closed and carry it out without touching the trash.
• Flap tie bags: Have extended plastic flaps you tie together by hand. They’re simple and can be adjusted for a tighter seal.

Both styles help keep trash contained, but drawstrings are often more convenient for quick removal and carrying.

Scented trash bags are designed to help mask odors in your kitchen or bathroom. They’re generally safe for everyday use, but if you or someone in your household is sensitive to fragrances, you might prefer unscented options. Always check the packaging for any allergy information or warnings. If you’re using bags for food waste or in areas with pets or kids, unscented bags can be a good choice to avoid strong smells.

Kitchen trash bags are typically made for indoor use and fit standard kitchen cans. While you can use them in outdoor bins, keep in mind:

• Strength: Outdoor trash may be heavier or have sharp objects, so a thicker, larger bag might work better.
• Size: Outdoor bins often need larger bags to prevent overflow.

For yard waste or heavy-duty trash, look for multi-purpose or large-capacity bags for extra durability.

To help keep your trash bag in place:

• Choose the right size: A bag that’s too small or too large can slip easily.
• Secure the edges: Stretch the bag’s top over the rim and tuck any extra material under the can’s handles or rim.
• Try drawstring bags: The drawstring can be tightened around the can’s edge for a snug fit.

These tips can help reduce messes and make taking out the trash a little easier.
