If you have thick hair, look for bun makers that are extra-large or made with sturdy materials like foam or mesh. These designs can help hold more hair securely and create a neat bun. Many sets include multiple sizes, so you can experiment to find what works best for your hair type. Using hair pins and elastic bands alongside your bun maker can also help keep everything in place, especially for thicker hair textures.

Hair bun makers are often referred to as hair donuts, chignon rings, bun shapers, or magic bun makers. They come in different shapes and materials, including foam rings, mesh tubes, and flexible clips. These tools are designed to help you easily create a polished bun or updo, whether you're prepping for a dance recital, wedding, or just want a quick everyday style.

If you don't have a bun maker handy, you can get creative with household items. Try rolling up a clean sock into a donut shape or use a scrunchie as a base for your bun. Hair nets, elastic bands, and bobby pins can also help you shape and secure your bun. While these alternatives might not give the same structure as a dedicated bun maker, they can still help you achieve a tidy updo in a pinch.

Choosing the right size bun maker depends on your hair length and the look you want.

• Small bun makers are great for shorter hair or subtle buns.
• Medium and large sizes work well for longer or thicker hair, creating fuller buns.
• If you're aiming for a dramatic updo, try an extra-large bun maker.

To keep your hair bun maker fresh, gently remove any hair from the tool after each use. If it's made of foam or mesh, you can rinse it with mild soap and warm water. Let it air dry completely before using it again to prevent moisture buildup. Avoid using harsh chemicals, as they can damage the material. Regular cleaning helps your bun maker last longer and keeps your hair accessories hygienic.
