Choosing the right size sliding shorts is all about comfort and protection. Start by checking the manufacturer's size chart, which usually lists waist measurements. It's a good idea to measure your waist at the spot where you wear your shorts. If you're between sizes, consider how snug you like your fit—compression shorts should be tight but not restrictive. Trying them on can help, but if shopping online, look for reviews mentioning fit. Properly sized shorts can help reduce chafing and provide better coverage during slides.

Sliding mitts and gloves both protect your hands during base slides, but they serve slightly different purposes.

• Sliding mitts are designed with extra padding and a slip-resistant surface to shield your fingers and wrist from injury.
• Gloves may offer basic protection but often lack the specialized padding found in mitts.

To keep your baseball sliding gear in top shape, follow these steps:

1. Check the care label for specific instructions.
2. Most sliding shorts and mitts can be machine washed on a gentle cycle with cold water.
3. Avoid bleach or harsh detergents, as these can damage padding and fabric.
4. Air dry your gear instead of using a dryer to prevent shrinking or wear.

Sliding shorts are versatile and can be used for several contact sports beyond baseball, like softball, football, lacrosse, and hockey. Their compression fit and padding help protect against abrasions and impacts during slides or falls. Always check product descriptions to see which sports are recommended, as some shorts may have features tailored for specific activities. Using them across sports can offer extra comfort and protection where needed.

Replacement parts for sliding mitts, such as straps or padding, aren’t commonly sold separately. If your mitt is damaged, it’s often best to look for a new one. However, some brands may offer limited accessories or repair kits—check product listings or manufacturer websites for details. Shopping at Walmart gives you access to a wide selection of sliding mitts, so finding a suitable replacement is usually straightforward.
