On this page, “back scratch” refers to tools designed to help you reach and lightly scratch or massage hard-to-reach spots on your back (and sometimes scalp or shoulders).

• Types: classic bamboo rakes, metal telescoping styles, and long-handle exfoliating or massage heads.
• Features: extendable shafts for extra reach, non-slip grips, detachable or dual-sided heads, and compact, travel-friendly designs.
• Uses: quick itch relief and light, relaxing pressure—at home, at work, or on the go.

You’ll find single tools and multi-packs in our Personal Care assortment. On Walmart.com, you can compare lengths, materials, and reviews to pick a comfortable, gentle option that fits how and where you plan to use it.

That satisfying feeling often comes from gentle mechanical stimulation that competes with the itch sensation. Light pressure from a smooth-tipped back scratcher can distract your nerves, draw attention to touch, and help you reach spots you otherwise can’t—so it can feel relaxing.

• Go gentle: use short, light strokes to help avoid irritation.
• Choose smooth tips: rounded claws or padded heads tend to feel comfortable.
• Adjust reach: telescoping handles let you apply light pressure without straining.

If you’re dealing with persistent itch or sensitive skin, consider pausing use and checking with a healthcare professional for guidance. Everyone’s skin responds differently, so find a pressure and head style that feels comfortable for you.

A back scratcher can be helpful when you want quick, light itch relief without twisting or overreaching.

• Hard-to-reach areas: longer or extendable handles bridge the gap comfortably.
• Control and hygiene: tools with smooth tips provide a gentler alternative to fingernails.
• Comfort features: look for non-slip grips, wider scratching surfaces, or dual-sided heads for different sensations.

Use light pressure and avoid using it on broken or irritated skin. Keep the tool clean and dry between uses. Back scratchers are for temporary comfort only and aren’t a treatment for skin conditions—if irritation continues, consider checking with a medical professional.

Both work well; choose based on feel, reach, and upkeep.

• Bamboo (wood): typically fixed length with a simple rake head. It offers a classic feel and is easy to hang or keep by your chair.
• Metal (telescoping): often extends for extra reach, folds down for travel, and may include hand-shaped, paw, or dual-sided heads. Rubberized grips can add control.
• Care: metal and plastic parts usually wipe clean easily; wood should be kept dry and spot-cleaned.

Think about where you’ll use it (home vs. travel), how much reach you want, and the head style that feels best. On Walmart.com, you can compare dimensions and features to find a comfortable match.

Care depends on the material. Regular light cleaning can help keep it comfortable to use.

• Metal/plastic: wipe the head and handle with a damp cloth and mild soap, then dry thoroughly to help prevent moisture buildup.
• Wood (bamboo): use a dry or slightly damp cloth for spot cleaning; avoid soaking to reduce the chance of warping.
• Detachable heads: if your model has removable heads, take them off and clean according to the product instructions, then reattach once dry.
• Storage: keep it in a clean, dry place; a small pouch works well for travel.

Always check the product page for any care notes from the manufacturer, as materials and finishes can vary.
