An AMI cable lets you connect your phone, tablet, or music device to your car's audio system using the Audi Music Interface (AMI) or Media Device Interface (MDI) port. With the right cable, you can:

• Play music from your device through your car speakers
• Charge compatible devices (if the cable supports charging)
• Enjoy hands-free audio without relying on Bluetooth

Just make sure your car has an AMI or MMI port and that the cable matches your device's connector, like USB-C, USB, or 3.5mm AUX.

AMI stands for Audi Music Interface, while MMI means Multi Media Interface. Here's how they differ:

• AMI is the physical port in your car that lets you connect external devices for music playback or charging.
• MMI is the car's overall infotainment system, which controls navigation, audio, and more.

So, AMI is mainly about connecting devices, while MMI is the system you interact with on your car's screen.

A 3.5mm cable is a type of AUX (auxiliary) cable, but not all AUX cables use a 3.5mm connector. Most car audio systems use a 3.5mm AUX input, which is the small round jack you see on many devices. When you see "3.5mm AUX," it means you can plug in headphones, phones, or other audio sources using that standard connector for music playback.

The AMI port is usually located in your car's center console, glove box, or armrest compartment. It looks like a rectangular slot, often labeled "AMI" or "Media Interface." If you're not sure, check your vehicle's manual for the exact location. Once you find it, you can plug in the appropriate AMI cable to connect your device for audio or charging.

Some AMI cables support charging, especially those with USB or USB-C connectors. However, not all AMI cables provide power—some are designed for audio only. To charge your phone, look for a cable that specifically mentions charging capability. Also, charging speed may be slower than a standard wall charger, as it depends on your car's system and the cable type.
