Extra long plastic straws fit the spout lid perfectly.; making clean up much easier. I just toss the straw and give it a quick rinse. I do sanitize it; but only when convenient. Haven't used the flat lid yet. But options are always good. I bet it would be perfect for soup when feeling poorly. I could lay in bed, watch movies and sip on soup ... mmm
