The easily read aneroid gauge will tell you the high number, called systolic, and the lower number, which is call the diastolic. The systolic number shows how much force is exerted on your artery walls by your heart to force blood throughout your body. Diastolic means the stage between heart contractions when the heart is again filling with blood and is getting ready for the next squeeze, or contraction, to make the bottom beat. The heart transports about 2000 gallons of blood through the body each day and it is vital to know how well the heart is getting the job done. One way this is measured is by taking the blood pressure. With your own system for checking this at home, attention can be paid when the numbers are not considered "normal". Normal blood pressure is about 120 over 80, and this will vary a little from hour to hour, day to day. Taking one's blood pressure at the same time each day will show when attention to a change must be paid. The cuff is easy to wrap around the arm. The stethoscope allows the beats to be clearly heard, but this may be a bit tight on the ears with first usages. Aneroid gauges give an accurate reading. You should not take a reading immediately after exercise, eating, or drinking alcohol but wait an hour. Complete instructions are included with the Homedics system.
