the swiffer power mop is super easy to use. i know that i’m not ever gonna be someone who will fill up the mop bucket and all that, it’s an event. this swiffer is the opposite, uneventful, unremarkable. “did i mop the - ok i don’t remember but floor looks good so.,” the downside is all the refills one needs to continue buying forever and ever. but as it turns out, the pro housekeeping community has a rich tradition in hacking these types of devices and there’s no shortage of instructional material found on the internet, including youtube videos, the mop pads are easy. you can get reusable microfiber or flannels through Amazon, Walmart, Temu, etc. anyone with basic sewing skills could make them too. wash them with laundry - it’s dirt cheap altogether but really not much up front anyway. the cleaning fluid refills are pricey and you’re throwing away a big plastic bottle every time. but a cursory internet search will return pages and pages of info, tips, formulas for DIY power mop fluid refills. the specially designed bottle that snaps into the power mop - keep those. don’t toss them. the top cover is really super duper on there - but you can just stick it in hot water for a minute or two, that thing comes off smooth and easy. the formulas are mixed in simple but very specific ratios because too high of a concentration can damage the tubes or pump or whatever is inside your power mop that allows you to spray it. i normally use diluted fabuloso or murphy’s oil soap - i used that first power mop for close to a year and it was still working great, i just left it with roommates when moved. so yeah, you can buy the convenience cleaning device like an amateur but no one can even criticize you for being eco-careless or for wasteful spending. you have transcended the contradiction between convenience and frugality.
