onn Video Doorbell Wired, with Google Home and Gemini, Head to Toe View, 1200p HDR – Search Video History, Event Descriptions (Existing Doorbell Wiring Required)

Allypop I've had video doorbell camera (Skybell) on our front door for almost a decade. I've also had a Google Nest Hub screen and speaker parked in our kitchen (at the back of our home) for nearly as long. It'd always thought it be neat to view the doorbell feed from our kitchen hub display, but couldn't quite justify replacing our perfectly functional (and subscription-free!) doorbell with a Nest version that cost nearly $200. This fall I got a free yearlong trial of Google Home Premium and discovered that Walmart had released this doorbell for $50. At such prices, I figured it was worth a shot. I can only compare the Onn video doorbell to my previous one, and in most aspects it's a solid upgrade. The best feature, of course, is that I can finally stream the video feed to our kitchen display and that it comes up automatically whenever the doorbell is rung. Most doorbells and cameras that claim Google Home integration can do the former but not the latter. The field of vision is a little narrower than the Skybell (which is 180 degrees horizontal) but the resolution is better. The feed is much more responsive and stable. Notifications are quick and accurate, and being able to filter motion events by type (person, animal, vehicle, etc) helps cut down on notification load and makes home automation much more helpful (now I can tell my front porch light to only come on when a person is approaching instead of every time a car passes by or a bug crawls over the camera). I still got many more notifications than I wanted when family members used the front door, but I used a notification manager app (BuzzKill) to filter out select individuals (like myself) so we'd only be notified if it was a visitor or unknown individual. Installation was super-simple, except for the mysterious inclusion of a "chime connector" puck which my previous doorbell didn't come with. The instructions simply said to hire an electrician to install it, which seemed a bit silly given one is already dealing with similar voltages and processes for the doorbell itself. Some online research revealed that other video doorbells also come with chime connectors, they're typically installed parallel with existing wires, and that they mainly help to reduce buzz (which my mechanical chime had) and increase reliability. I installed mine inside the chime box and it's been working well so far. I wish that it didn't cost $10 a month to retain more than 3 hours of event history and after my year's trial of Google Home Premium is over I'll have to weigh and consider my options. For now at least, I'm enjoying our new doorbell and am very grateful for Walmart for releasing such a well-priced and well-featured device!
