Petstages Slow Fun Feed Bowl: I was so excited to have the opportunity to try the Petstages Slow Fun Feed Bowl with my dachshund Snickers. He gobbles down his food so fast! When I first got him about 3 years ago, he would regularly eat all his food, 1 cup, in about 1 minute and then he would vomit it back up. It was so distressing that I started feeding him half as much twice a day. The dog I had before Snickers I free fed and never had a problem. I think the difference is that the previous dog I got as a pup, so he had always been free fed. Snickers is a rescue and shows signs of having had to fight for food in his past. Free feeding for Snickers is not a possibility. I think he would literally eat until he explodes. The Petstages Slow Fun Feed Bowl advertises on its label that the “ridges and mazes lengthen mealtime. Helps prevent bloat, regurgitation, and canine obesity.” It also says it promotes fun, healthy eating and it creates 10 times slower eating. Common sense says . . . . . I need to check this out. Snickers’ feeding time increased from 31 seconds to 2:28 with his first experience. Just shy of 5 times slower. I did some “off label” choices that may have created less of an increase than I would have experienced if I had gotten the smaller bowl. The Petstages Slow Fun Feed Bowl I chose is designed for “up to 3 cups” of food. The smaller choice was designed for up to 1 cup and I only feed ½ cup per meal. Still, I am incredibly pleased with the results and I got exactly what I wanted. Snickers has not vomited one time since he began using the Petstages Slow Fun Feed Bowl. He does not walk around wrenching his stomach anymore. He also seems to belch less, and he seems happier and healthier. It is too soon to know if he will lose weight, but I am certainly hoping that for him as dachshunds have serious spinal problems if they get too fat.
