Great for smoking

Don't bother using these with a chimney. Just stuff the chimney with newsprint or brown paper bags and light with a match. Paper honestly works great as it burns hot and fast evenly across the bottom of the chimney and the lit coals do the rest. These are perfect for smoking, where you want to light a small amount of coals in the corner of a charcoal basket or banked coal arrangement. Put one on the bottom and strategically stack some coals around and on top without squishing it and it'll light those coals nice and slow so you can dial in those low temps for smoking.

We typically use a chimney to start the coals because we dislike the smell of starter fluid. While these have an odor in the beginning, it goes away quickly and leaves you with much more coal burn time than the chimney method. We're using less charcoal!
