The View-Master Virtual Reality Starter Pack comes with a View-Master viewer, preview reel, phone adapter (for iPhones) and instruction booklet. The main part of making the View-Master Virtual Reality system work at all is having a Smartphone that is compatible to the set. The full list of phones is listed on the box but they are all newer models so definitely check to make sure the person you are getting this set for has the use of a compatible phone. To begin the experience you will need to download the View-Master Wildlife, Space or Destinations applications from Google Play Store or iTunes Apps Store, to your phone; you need all three to sample all three portions of the Starter Pack. After you download one of the apps just follow the instructions to load and launch the application. The first time I began the Destinations experience I was blown away! I automatically wanted to start walking around; make sure you have a clear space around you because you will definitely want to turn around and look up as well; probably a good thing to have two people together while using the viewer; it is too easy to walk into furniture because you want to explore. This is a full, 360 degree experience; as you look around information symbols pop up that you click on to read about what you are looking at. The View-Master Virtual Reality Starter Pack is an entertaining and informative experience that is fun for the entire family.

The View Master of yesteryear as gotten a huge upgrade. This one is virtual. It takes you out of your surroundings and sends you to other places. First, you download one of the View Master virtual reality apps to start your experience. There are three different apps to choose from; Space, Wildlife, and Destinations. To get the full experience of these apps, you will have to purchase those packs separately. However, with the View Master Experience pack, you will be able to preview those other packs. After you download the app of your choice, you then place your smartphone into the View Master and begin your virtual reality. Unfortunately, you will have to take your case off of your phone if it has one. It is suggested to use a smartphone with a 5 or 6 inch screen. Most newer model phones will work. I have an IPhone 6 and it worked perfectly. I also tried an old IPhone 4. You were still able to use it, but the screen was quite short to get the whole experience. Please be aware that your phone will heat up quite a bit while it is inside of the View Master. I suggest that you keep a watch on the temperature of your phone while using it because it would not be a good thing for an expensive phone to overheat and possibly be ruined. While on your virtual journey, you can travel into space and see the constellations, stars, and spaceships. You can be transported to New York, London, and even see Mayan ruins, or you can check out wild animals in the Outback, the Amazon, and even see the Savanna. The whole experience is in a 360 degree view. Warning, don't walk around and try to get closer to things while viewing or you'll end up running into things. The new View Master knocked it out of the park with this new design. Even as an adult, I enjoyed it as much as the kids. A word of advice though, if you have multiple children I suggest you purchase more than one because they will be fighting over it.
This is cool and neato product!
It looked 100 percent intimidating and just wanted the old fashioned one back at first glance. I had the apps downloaded within thirty minutes then it took just minutes to get it up and running and the sights you can see are like being a tourist at those locations. You know which destinations you want to travel to and those will be vacation trips to plan when the opportunity arises. You can also go to places you will never go to, it is a virtual reality. It does not use much battery power when used for any length of time the phone gets warm and you have to let it cool down a few minutes then it is up and running again, and their is still plenty of battery power left to continue your adventure. My grandson can start the app when prompted to look at the reel at nine years old. This is a great family time adventure everybody loves, it even occupies my 15 month old granddaughter, she figured out the there was a phone it was coming from, everybody likes to take turns. I plan on getting a whole library and to have a wide variety available and gaze at the solar system or travel to the savanah, a national park, etc. anytime. That is a library collection that will be well worth the price. Some libraries are worth more. They are 360 degree adventures you can look all around and see all the sights up and down with interactive games and information just a click away.
Awesome Learning Experience
This is a very well made item, that fits in the lines of a learning toy and also an entertainment toy. The starter pack comes with a viewer, a preview reel, phone adapter and instructions. I tried several different phones, and the only one I had available that would work with it, was a Samsung Galaxy S5. The box lists which phones will work with it. For this product to work correctly, you really need to have a phone that has gyro capabilities. The preview reel that comes with the viewer has quite a bit of content on it, and a good preview for what you will be able to do with the experience packs that are also available. The preview reel was awesome to experience, and was very easy to get up and running. The viewer is well made, and easy to hold on to. There are no straps to hold it to your head, but since this is aimed at being a learning toy for children, I think that is a good thing and a safety factor. There is a lever on the side, that you press down to make your menu choices. You look into the viewer, look around, and find the icon you want, then pull down the lever. If you are in a scene with an open area, to get to a menu, you just can aim anywhere and pull the lever and the menu will pop up. The latch that holds the viewer closed, did not always latch securely, so I used a finger on each side to hold it closed, just to be safe, but it was more comfortable to hold it that way. The viewer also works with google cardboard apps. I think this is a very fun, and educational item for anyone in any age group.
Amazing 3D Experience!
This View Master Virtual Reality is really neat! I wish this was around years ago, when I was a kid. This View Master is a lot of fun, both for kids and adults. This View Master Virtual Reality Starter Pack comes with an adapter piece if you have a smaller phone, a demo reel, and instructions. The demo reel basically gives you a sneak peek of the experience pack reels. I've also attached a picture showing the back of the box, so that you can see which smartphones it works well with. There are pros and cons to this Viewmaster, but the pros definitely outweigh the cons for me. The pros are that you will have such an immersive experience with this that it makes you feel as if you are right there in person where you're looking. It's pretty amazing! Everything is in 3-D, and things move as if they are real! My child and I were both in awe as we were using this viewmaster. If you have your audio turned on, you will also hear different sounds or tunes, or sounds related to the mini games. Also, there are short videos you can watch on different reels. You can read fun facts, and play mini games. It's very educational for kids! I've even learned a few things myself, and I've seen a few things that I've never seen before. You can also use this with the Google Cardboard app, and even though there isn't very much on the Google cardboard app... We've had a good bit of fun with it too. Some people say that this can be used with YouTube 360 videos, but I have yet to find a YouTube 360 video that this works well with. The cons are that you have to download apps which use up storage on your phone, and you have to place your phone inside the Viewmaster to use it. This may not be a big deal for some, but I really don't like that my child has to use my phone everytime he or she wants to use the view master. Also, sometimes you can get a little dizzy. This is usually either due to the phone/the app, or if you move around a little too fast while viewing the reels. Another con is that with the experience packs, you have to use the pass card that comes with them in order to view the three reels that are included in each experience pack. We have had a hard time trying to get the pass cards to scan on the phone. It usually takes a few minutes to get the card to scan, which is sometimes very frustrating. If you're interested, please be sure to look for my reviews on the space, wildlife, and destinations experience packs to give you more information on each of them. Thanks! :)
3D immersive experience should be in classrooms
This is great but it DEFF. Requires a smartphone.. It fits inside the viewfinder. iPads and tablets will NOT WORK WITH THIS AT ALL,! Only smartphones and be carful make certain you remove any and all phone cases and covers it is a very tight fit. And btw .. Pay close attention to the clip when you close the viewfinder on your phone it is such a tight fit it can get stuck I had to crack the clip in order to remove my friends phone from the device. Also please remember to remove your phones sleep mode because your phone will think it is inactive while you are in your experience and it will continue to boot you out of the app. Even then most phones after 2 mins go to sleep.. If you are not touching it in someway.. And while it is in the veiw Finder you are not able to touch the screen to keep your phone and the app. Active .. So I still kept getting booted out of the app. And the experience. But wow ! When you are in the experience! Oh my ! Gosh it was SO AMAZING .. SPECTACULAR, it was like really being there.. Colors depth, it was gorgeous! And the demensions wow second best to actually being there. Now if the company can fix the above issues you got something remarkable I could see being used as a teaching tool in classrooms!
Setting up is very time consuming.
We were really excited about this View Master. I loved the view masters when I was a kid and had a collection of reels that I donated to a library when I got married. When I saw the new version of View Master, I just had to get it because it was Virtual Reality. I did have to read the instructions (usually I don't). The reel that comes with this package does not go inside the goggles. That was new. And the goggles are pretty big. I guess they have to be so that you can put the cell phones in there. I had to download the apps for my phones. It took me a while to find the apps for my phones. I couldn't find them on ITunes or Google play at first. I found their website and was able to download the apps from there. So far, there are three different VR apps and I had to download all three to be able to see the three samples that come with the starter pack. In order to download the apps, I had to be connected to a WiFi. I normally do not connect to WiFi, I use my data plans, but with this downloads, it would not let me use my own data. I had to wait to have access to WiFi. Then, the wifi was very slow and it took more than an hour to download the first app to my iPhone 6+. I then used a hotspot which allowed me to download the other apps a bit faster, but I would have rather used my own phone data. Then I had to remove the lifeproof case from the phone so it could fit in the goggles. After spending a day downloading the three apps to my three phones (iPhone 6+ and HTC 1), I was ready to play. With the iphones, no problems. It was amazing!! (but very limited). The starter pack has amazing stuff. My HTC 1 (a prepaid smartphone) has yet to work. I downloaded the apps. They start up just fine. We it tries to start the camera to scan the reel, the app closes. I've checked all the settings to see if I can figure out why it does that, but I haven't figured it out yet. I checked their website troubleshooting and I found no answer. I've been looking for a contact us link but haven't found one. So I've only been able to use it with our iPhone and I have to remove the lifeproof case every time (which is not an easy task). When I get the HTC to work, I'll be happier.
My View-Master Virtual Reality Starter Pack
This idea of updating the Old View-master Viewer is a great concept, But it is not for someone with a minimal Tech savvy. That be known I found it a little hard to set up. First if you have a Smartphone with a protective cover or case you first need to remove it to fit the phone into the View-master Viewer, but before you put the phone into the case you need to Download the App, Be aware that the App is a large program and it will take several minutes(use Wi Fi to install it)to load up the App. I found that depending on the Program(Nature, Space or Destinations) that sometimes you need to restart your phone and hope that the program will initiate. Overall the approach is good you just need to be patient with time it will take to make this Old idea function in today's High tech environment. Be prepared once the system is set to experience a full 360 degree Virtual reality and start by sitting down and now standing or walking around. I will give this a Positive review, but caution it by saying that is will not be a quick or easy installation of the App.
Virtual Reality is Here!
Box comes with one reel and the headset. You'll need to purchase additional reels in order to view more areas. I've tested the Designations, Space, and Safari reels. I would recommend the Space one if you're only going to buy one. This review is for the headset. Headset is very well built, great look and feel to the product. It is a little difficult to get the phone in and out of the device. Held my 5.5” phone with relative ease. I was using a brand new 5.5” phone and I actually taped around the edges in the headset that are used to hold the phone because it looked like it could damage it. I would say there could have been a lot of improvement on how it is holding the phone in. Fabric should have been completely around the notches that were used to hold the phone. Getting the phone in and out of the device is challenging, again this may have been due to the fact that I was worried I could scratch my phone. Once everything is set up, you have to download the app with each reel. The apps are fairly large (35mb+). The apps require you to activate them with a passport. The passports are a nice touch because it makes you feel like you're traveling somewhere, but they are insanely difficult to use. It is a good thing you only need to activate once, because everytime I had to activate it took 5 minutes.
Viewmaster Virtual Reality Starter Pack
This is a really hard review to do because I wanted so much to like it. It was just too difficult to set up. It is a great concept but falls short on so many levels. First, it is only useable on a smartphone device. You must insert your smartphone into the Viewmaster but only after downloading the app on your smartphone from the App Store or google play. This took at least 30 minutes to download. It takes huge amounts of memory. I have a Samsung Galaxy but the starter pack does come with an adapter for the iPhone 5s, 5c, and 5. Not sure if it would work with the iPhone 6. I thought this would make a great gift for my 7 and 8 year old grandsons but not so much, now that I know what a pain it is just to set it up. I actually had to go to my cellphone carrier to get it downloaded. Now, once we got it downloaded, and I was able to view the preview reel, it was incredible! The 3d effect was amazing. There are three "experience packs" that can be purchased separately, Space, Destinations, and Wildlife. The starter pack comes with a reel that is a sample of each of the Experience Packs. Unless your child has their own smartphone, I don't think you want to give up your phone every time they want to play with the Viewmaster. I do not recommend this product, sorry.
