A civil servant's job application becomes a confession of complicity spanning twenty years of bureaucratic service.
When Eliasanthar sits down to write his résumé for a prestigious position at the Institute for Transitional Governance, he intends to summarize his qualifications. Instead, he begins documenting the truth: how a young economics graduate became an expert in verifying the non-existent, amending records to erase inconvenient history, and maintaining systems designed to fail the people they claim to serve.
From certifying phantom development projects to documenting satellite launches that never occurred, from archiving amended testimonies to coordinating pandemic supply chains where medicine existed on paper but never reached villages-each posting reveals another compromise, another small death of conscience in service of institutional continuity.
THE RESUME is a novel structured as the document it describes: a bureaucrat's application that refuses to be filed, a confession disguised as credentials, a testimony that breaks the silence bureaucracy requires. It asks the question its narrator can no longer avoid: What does it cost to be good at your job when your job requires becoming someone you never intended to be?
For readers of literary fiction that takes ideas seriously and experimental forms that serve profound purposes, THE RESUME offers an unflinching examination of how ordinary competence becomes extraordinary complicity-and whether documentation can become testimony, whether witness can become refusal, whether it's ever too late to use your full name.
