Can you grow bamboo across your plantation as a mischievous panda eats wherever he can? In every game of Takenoko, the players take the role of gardeners of the Nippon emperor caring for his Giant Panda and growing a bamboo plantation. Your mission: to farm and irrigate parcels of land growing green, yellow, and pink bamboo. Each turn, you'll see what the weather brings your way and perform two actions: getting a new plot of land, digging irrigation channels, growing bamboo, feeding the panda, or drawing an objective card. At the end of the game, whichever player has earned the most points from his objectives wins!

It seems like there is a large amount of rules at first, but plays really easy and is great for beginners as well. We have played this game with 4 other couple and just with my wife and I and have enjoyed every game. If you go to YouTube and search for TableTop Takenoko they have a good video with the game rules and a play through. Try it out.

Can be simplified or complex!

You can fudge things a bit to make for faster 2-player games, or follow the rules, which slow things down but make for a great game. There is strategy, but it isn't so strategic that one person can outsmart everyone and make it impossible. It's very different in how 1 person can accidentally build another's score.

Great game for the whole family

Got this over the Christmas break and the whole family had fun deep into the night. A good amount of upfront effort needed to learn the rules but it's worth it!

Fun

Takenoko is a pretty fun game. I would suggest more than 2 players, maybe 3 or 4 (max). Initially it seems like there are a lot of rules, but once you play it once or twice the rules will seem self explanatory. The instruction booklet is good, but worst case scenario, you can just Youtube on how to play the game (recommended). The board game material are of nice quality especially the board pieces. I think the plastic box interior where you separate the pieces can be of better quality and could be more durable.. The plastic box interior is helpful in organizing the pieces during a game and after. There is a little bit of strategic aspect in the game, but not too much. I usually prefer a bit more strategy, but this game is still fun.

Takenoko

It is a fun family friendly game.

Fun game, but gardener arrived broken

Game was very fun and easy to follow. Only thing is that the gardener arrived with it's head broken off. So, this if more of a ding towards the build of the pieces rather than the gameplay and how fun the game is.

Nice Game

Good, fairly simple game. Good for kids 7+. Too much luck for me. Cardboard is on the thin side, but the gardener and panda figures are nice.
