Carefree 850001 White Pioneer Crank-Out RV Awning Upgrade Endcap Kit

We recently installed a Pioneer endcap manual crank mechanism on our 21 foot pioneer awning and I can assure you that I will never go back to awnings with springs again. The install was very easy, less than 30 minutes, and required drilling 3 small pilot holes and using the supplied self tapping screws to attach the endcap. Attach the Carefree awning arm to the end cap then attach to your coach,that's it. Now I don't have to mess around with travel locks, spring lock toggle or the pull pull strap, I simply crank my awning open when I need it and close by cranking when I am done. The mechanism has a worm drive gear that holds the awning exactly where you stop cranking without slipping. Our camper is on a yearly site where we fish for steelhead all winter so having an awning that is easy to operate is a major advantage and this awning is extremely easy to operate. To open the awning all you have to do is turn the handle crank until your awning is fully open. After that simply slide the rafter arm to the roller tube and tighten, once tightened you can adjust the pitch of your awning with the lift handles. With that being said I would also like to mention that if you stand with your back to the coach while cranking to unwind your awning it will make it much easier to get the gear started. I will include a video of my 12 year old grandson opening the awning. If you want your awning very tight you can back crank it just a bit after tightening the rafter arms. We had a thunderstorm blow in the very first night that we had the new gear on our awning and the worm gear held perfectly. Our awning stayed taut with no retightening. If you have springs that are still under tension in your roller tube be extremely careful disassembling them or better yet hire or get help from someone who has unwound the springs before. I am very happy with the quality of this mechanism and the way that it operates. It is so nice to be able to open and close my awning with such ease. I would highly recommend this crank out gear to anyone and I personally will never own an awning without one.
