耶路撒冷的夏天, (Paperback)

A Summer in Jerusalem is a profound and enchanting novel that guides readers through the ancient and modern landscapes of Jerusalem, while simultaneously tracing the inner transformation of its young protagonist, Xueli. The book is not simply a travel account of a summer abroad; it is a deeply human story that intertwines history, culture, emotion, and the search for self. At its core, the novel uses Xueli's summer study program in Jerusalem as the narrative thread. Through her eyes, readers are introduced to the city's vivid layers - from the prayers whispered before the Wailing Wall to the sunlit quiet of Jaffa's streets, from the legendary tales of Jesus and Herod Antipas to the academic energy of Hebrew University. Jerusalem emerges not only as a geographical location but as a living intersection where ancient traditions converse with modern realities, where the sacred collides with the secular, and where personal stories resonate against the vast backdrop of history. Xueli herself is portrayed as a curious, independent, and sensitive young woman who approaches the world with both wonder and critical thought. Along her journey, she encounters a mosaic of international peers - Su En, an Australian chinese boy whose relationship with her evolves from tentative beginnings to deep mutual understanding; Mo Xiaoqiao, a fellow student from Shanghai; and Matthew, a lively Italian youth. These friendships and relationships enrich her experiences and reveal the complex palette of human connection: friendship tinged with compassion, the excitement and difficulty of young love, and the deepened empathy that comes from genuine cultural exchange. The gradual unfolding of her bond with Su En, in particular, highlights both the sweetness and the bittersweetness of love when lived against a backdrop of uncertainty and distance.
