I bought the AX3000 after getting fed up with arguing with my 4 roommates about streaming speeds at our place. We used to have to take turns using netflix or online gaming. We've all been able to stream shows or work from home with no issues since getting the new router. We also haven't noticed any loss of speed when all our friends visit and poach our WiFi so I'm impressed!

Middling Performance
I purchased this on Black Friday will be returning it. Much cheaper devices will perform better if you don't require WiFi 6 (802.11ax), but even if you did need WiFi 6, performance would be poor. 2.4 Ghz performance is actually great. Speed and range is greater in all cases than my Netgear R7000, which is considered a very good but older device. 5 Ghz performance is very middling. Speed and range is poor. If the device performs poorly here, it will almost certainly also perform poorly once I purchase a WiFI 6 device that supports the higher advertised (but never actually achieved) speeds. The SSID broadcast also appears misconfigured, because it can take several minutes for a new device to see the network. The web interface is also extremely slow, with most changes taking so long that it appears they require a restart (but there is no indication of this on the front lights). Changing WiFi settings can also cause the physical buttons on the router to become unresponsive. My full speed results are available at www.drinkmorejava.com/RAX35Performance.jpg

Who has 400 bucks plus for a router? I know I dont. I bought this router on black Friday for $99 and it's well worth the price. This is a nice entry level Wi-Fi 6 nighthawk with OFDMA but no mu-mimo. Sure, there's bigger, better nighthawks with more features, but ur talking hundreds of dollars. If you need a nice, start up nighthawk that will handle ur strwaming, surfing, and gaming all at once, then this will definitely do. Some people just can't be pleased no matter what. i, however, am and my rating reflects my review.

This router reunited my family

This router is exactly what we needed. With all the TVs now at 4K and upwards, smart home gadgets preparing to take over the world and phones becoming more powerful, it really does wonders to have your internet updated to support all these. I really underestimated just how many benefits upgrading our router would bring. My wife and I can enjoy a movie together without our son yelling to get off Netflix because he's in a raid. My daughter can scroll through Instagram faster, get to the stuff she's already seen and actually set her phone down to communicate with me since she blazed through the content so fast! Set up for this router was super simple and straight forward. Yeah no one likes to disconnect their internet but trust me it'll only be a few minutes of the kids screaming, nothing you aren't already used to. The nighthawk app that comes with it makes it super straight forward and comes with a bucket of features. I haven't gone though them all yet but mostly I like how you can see who's on your network. So if either of our children have someone added to our network..I'll know. And I can boot off devices at the touch of a button! This power makes me never loose an argument about homework and makes my wife swoon seeing how much authority I now have over our teens. All in all this router has brought my family closer together, resolved arguments, and made me feel again like the hero my wife married. I think all of that is priceless. I did receive this router as part of Netgears First Look program but that does not change the fact that this router is awesome and you really won't know what you're missing out on till you try it. It's like not knowing that there is a better option, a faster option, so you become content with what you have. We're talking streaming and gaming on multiple tvs and computers at once, among other things, in the highest quality. So thank you netgear for letting me have the opportunity to test and review this router. I no longer have to keep restocking on lozenges for my son since he no longer looses his voice yelling as me that I'm ruining his game.

Just what we were looking for

I really dreaded installing this new much-needed router. The last time I just changed just the password I was down several hours just trying to get all my devices working, my wireless plugs are still down. So after I bought this new Nighthawk router, it set in the box for a week as I said before I dreaded making any changes. Before installing I did copy all my credentials just in case. Following directions, the new Nighthawk router did not work. So... I decided to just hook up to the internet just like my old one. Wow the New Nighthawk router was working as it should, We have a huge home and without my extender, I Checked backroom TV and Blu-ray they worked, and my Echo dots and Alexa enabled devices worked as well. My wife commented that her computer lag issues were gone and much faster and she was also happy . The big test was later that evening I streamed to the main TV that now was no longer "buffering" or "connection lost" on my VUDU movies and other streaming services. I am a very happy camper with the purchase of this Nighthawk router.

A Bit Dissapointed.

Heres My Problem Bought it On Black Friday Bc I thought It Was A big of A Deal But In Reality Im A Bit Dissapointed. Im A Big Gamer And Latency Is a Big Deal For Me. I Have a 25$ Router that i Bought From Amazon From A Brand That i Have Never Heard Before (Wise Tiger I Think) and With That Router I Get On My Games A Latency of 65ms While On This One (More Expensive And A Well Known Brand) i Cant Even Get Below 80ms and Sometimes It Even Jumps To 95ms which It Gives Lag Spikes Every Once in a While. It gets frustrating. Im Even Thinking of Returning it.

BIOS Lacking

I rated this low because of the BIOS options. Poor QOS control was the deal-breaker. Full disclosure - I am very experienced with setting up computers and basic networking. I purchased this router to provide better network speeds and more reliable operation for my work computers. Pros - - The setup was fairly easy. Within about 30 minutes I had my network mostly configured (including assigning static IPs with teh DHCP function). - The price was great for an AX router. - Appeared to have good parental controls. Cons - - The menus were generally less intuitive than other routers I have used in the past. - Reboot time is sooooo long. I did not time it, but I'm guessing it was about 3 minutes. Ever have a problem and need to reset the router? Within 3 minutes, my kids would have every wire torn out trying their own brand of trouble shooting. - The QOS options were terrible. The only option was to turn it on and (according to the help), it would prioritize gaming and streaming. This prevented me from setting the parents work computers as top priorities. My second priority would have been streaming to our family TV. Last priority would be streaming to the kids mobile devices and game consoles. I can only assume that the kids would rule the internet with this router. They might as well bundle this router with a smart lock for your home that lets kids order room service from the pizza shop and the delivery driver can run it right up to their room without knocking (charging it to the parents, of course). - nighthawk app asked for a password on their internet site. I assume that thais gives an external path to the router. Why would I trust a company to manage my account information for my home network? Why expose myself to more identity theft? It's going back in the box to see if I can return it. It's most frustrating because I researched what I consider to be similar netgear routers and they seemed to provide the controls I needed.

Not a great router for >16 devices and large home.

If you have a small to medium home with less than 16 devices, then this may work well for you. Unfortunately, if you have more than 16 devices then the router will have some issues. The WiFi6 does improve the overall networking speeds and the router itself is built well enough. It just doesn't work well with bigger homes and more complicated home configurations/devices. The setup was pretty easy as well with the mobile app - but there are very few features that you can tweak. The app does allow for you to label all devices that are connected to the router so that is a nice feature and it seemed to play well with my other two routers in the home.

Bad Choice

I'm and IT Professional and this router was a bad buy. Model RAX35 has too many problems. the good model is RAX40 which looks very Identical to this one, but with an improved hardware and a usb 3.0 port. I thought I was getting a good deal, but apparently not. The router keeps disconnecting from my modem and the WiFi signal is not stable. I even called their support and they did state that this model was a bad model. I advised everyone to not purchase this and get the RAX40 model instead.

Do Not Buy -Wasted 2 hours

Do not buy. Lots of issues. Bought Thanksgiving night spent 2 hours on the phone with tech support. The WIFI will not deliver the advertised speed. Wired directly to laptop and I was getting 100 MBPS and on WIFI the best was only 30 MBPS only 2 feet from product. It is a new product for Netgear. Has lots of bugs. I had a very patient tech on the phone and we were both frustrated. We tried changing channels, refreshing firm ware, and several other settings.

Avoid at all costs!

AVOID! Not long after warranty expired settings all mysteriously changed and unit stopped brodcasting. I am pretty good with electronics and rarely have to ask for any assistance getting anything to work but this was beyone my knowledge so i called Netgear and spoke to their “customer support” who said that an update changed the internal settings and that my unit was functioning properlyand all i needed to do was pay them $179.00 and they would tell me how to,change the settings back to,where it was prior to their update. Caveat Emptor. You have been warned!

1. Yes, it's a router so it needs a direct connection to a modem to work. As far as what ISP like xfinity goes--any provider should work--although with a higher end router like this I would recommend using an ISP that is able to deliver fast speeds. A great router is only as good as the speed of internet it's tapping into.
