Mylin, (Paperback)

In the frozen dark of seventeenth-century Scandinavia, a desperate girl abandons her newborn child in the forest and walks away, believing the snow will swallow what shame cannot. But before dawn she begins to hear a voice behind her in the blackness - small, thin, impossible, and pleading in the old language.

The next morning, she is found dead in the snow, her body broken with unnatural force, and the story is buried with her. Centuries pass. The name fades. The hunger does not.

Now, in present-day Cape Town, psychologist Liv Olsen begins treating a young woman troubled by whispers she cannot explain. At first the voice seems like trauma, delusion, grief - something human and containable. Then the patient misses an appointment. Days later, Liv reads about a woman found murdered in her bed, crushed as though by something inhuman.

As Liv begins digging into forgotten northern folklore and the brutal old legend of the myling, she uncovers a darkness older than memory, one that does not rest, does not forgive, and does not stop once it has been heard. What she first mistakes for an echo may be something still searching for its mother, still crawling through generations, still following those who listen too closely.

Some children are mourned.

Some are buried.

Some are never carried far enough.

Mylin is a slow-burning folk supernatural novel steeped in dread, grief, inherited guilt and the terrifying persistence of ancient things that refuse to stay dead. Blending Scandinavian legend with modern psychological unease, it draws the reader into a world where the past does not sleep - it waits.

If you hear it calling, do not answer.
