Seems solid. Rubber and spring loaded pegs make it similar to my key'd lock. Code reset makes it easy to find 3rd number. This has a nice heft and seems like a solid device. Only 4 starts because the third number is easy to find if you have the first 2. There is a combo reset button on the side you push in with pin, pen, etc. If you have the first two numbers set to the combination and press on the button while rotating the 3rd wheel the button will push in when you come to the 3rd number. So you essentially have 100 combinations to instead of the 1000 you expect if you know this lock. I have no kids at home so this is good enough for my purpose - delay anyone getting at the gun, say during transport, but let me at it in under half a minute without having to find a lost key. I like that I can set my own combination and it seems easy to operate. To close you just align the shaft and push. The combination does not need to be set. To open, dial and pull. Spring loaded pins help keep it in place and from moving over the trigger guard. If you want real gun safety, get a gun safe and teach your kids gun handling from a very young age.
