The year is 1984 and eighteen-year-old Havana leaves the sunny beaches of California to fly alone to a cold and depressed London. She was born there, but knows no one. She is on a mission to discover her father, to get to know who he really was. Killed by the police when Havana was three, she knows that her life is on hold until she has caught up with her past. Her father is a part of her, but is a stranger. Havana seeks everyone who knew him. It changes her life in unpredictable ways. She discovers the real man to be complex and certainly not the hero of her imagination. Tracing her family, she meets her father's mother. Through her grandmother's warmth and acceptance, she feels part of the human family, and in discovering who her father really was, she begins to discover herself. She then falls in love with the most unlikely man. Marine Ices honours the love of family through the generations; the love of friends; and romantic love, where the beauty of sex is its expression. This most unlikely love story blossoms as a diverse group of people become a loving family. In Marine Ices, love does conquer all ... with the help of ice cream.
