Gillespie always liked his bebop tailored to a large aggregation and burst onto the scene with his startling Bib Band in 1945 - the first of many Diz would put together over the years. This 1956 recording live from Birdland in New York City, features one of the finest units that Gillespie ever led. Blessed with a good team of arrangers, himself included, he set collective standards that not all such bands could match. The disc abounds with great charts and superb section and solo work with impressive readings of Gillespie classics such as Groovin' High, Tin Tin Deo, Night in Tunisia, Cool Breeze and the rest.
