To maintain steady control without needing your off-hand on the base plate, keep both hands firmly on the main grip housing, or use your off-hand to guide the included edge-guide attachment along the workpiece edge. When routing freehand, guiding the tool smoothly against the bit's rotation (typically moving left to right) helps prevent the bit from climbing the wood and provides more predictable, comfortable handling.
