Kira Burnett and Jung Chanjoon are two unconventional people who find themselves entangled in the throes of a love that seems neverending. Kira is the daughter of sharecroppers, two generations away from slavery. Chanjoon is an orphaned Korean-American. Finding himself adopted by fellow sharecroppers, the boy's differences are apparent yet accepted and he grows up befriending Kira. She finds herself cursed, plagued by extremely dark skin and eyes full of grey sea water. Set in 1930s Georgia in a time where hatred and skin color ruled the world around them, this tale of love, friendship, war and heartbreak shines a brilliant light in the darkness. Kira and Joon's story speaks to just how powerful love is and how it is eternal, just like the ever lapping sea.
