This is a very good value. Yes, it's laminated press-board but its spacious, looks nice, and is very functional. My wife got it for our home office and she really likes it. Assembly is pretty straight forward and our teenage son and a couple of his buddies put it together. I might note that It IS heavy!

For the price, you're getting a good-quality desk. Obviously you're not attaining a family heirloom here... it is constructed of laminated particle board... but this is a solid piece that should last you many, many years. It's made of a more dense particle board than typical American-made furniture (this is made in Canada); somewhere between the stuff you usually encounter and MDF. The lamination is very good quality and edges are slightly beveled, so you're not going to get delamination by catching a loose shirt or pant leg on the edge. This thing is heavy and should be assembled relatively close to it's final resting location unless you have another person to assist in moving it. However, I was able to assemble and move it on my own on a hardwood floor. I also purchased the matching bookcase as well and my above views reflect it as well. It came very sturdily-packaged. A few extra assembly screws, etc were included, so you're not gonna run short. All pieces were wrapped in plastic wrap, edges bound with thick cardboard, and enclosed in a sturdy box. There was ZERO damage from the trip from Canada. All in all, I will definitely purchase products from this manufacturer in the future and highly recommend it to anyone.
