Kaito Portable AM/FM Radios, Red, KA500L
Key item features
The KA500L is an upgraded version of the popular KA500 model. Based on customer's feedback, we made a large solar panel to power and charge the radio more efficiently. In addition, we also changed the battery from 600 MAH to 2500 MAH so the radio will last longer during power outage with full charge. Specifically designed for emergency situations, the KA500L offers different methods to power itself. Those methods include AC USB adapter (not included), the built-in rechargeable Lithium battery which can be charged from the AC USB adapter, by hand cranking, by solar panel or by a PC, and the dynamo hand crank which not only can keep the built-in battery fully charged but also provides power for the radio even when no battery is installed. With its revolutionary design and versatile functions, it’s an ideal companion for emergency preparedness purposes, outdoor activities as well as traveling.
Unlike any other emergency radios previously manufactured by Kaito, the KA500L's rechargeable batteries are replaceable, extra battery are available for purchasing on Kaito's website.
At the heart of the KA500L, there is an internal generator that recharges the internal replaceable Lithium battery and powers the radio, flashlight and reading lamp. Also, by plugging your cell phone into the jack on the back of the radio, you can use the crank to power your phone. Not only that, this radio also features an USB port, which you can use either to charge your radio with a PC or charge other electronic gadgets with the hand crank.
You can use the KA500L to receive a wide range of broadcasting including AM, FM, shortwave and NOAA weather stations. The 7-weather channels are pre-programmed and numbered from 1-7, you can easily and conveniently tune into the stations by turning the switch, no more guess work involved.
Compared with any other solar-powered emergency radios, the KA500L has its unique 180-degree adjustable solar panel, which can maximize sunlight exposure to power up the radio or charge the Lithium battery. On the back side of the solar panel flipped up, there’s super-bright 5-LED reading lamp.

I purchased this as a gift for my son to put in his emergency preparedness kit. He was pleased with it. He was impressed with the reception for our area. He did mention that the hand cranked charging system is about even crank for a minute listen for a minute but the solar seems to be reliable.

Great emergency radio
Gave this 5 stars because it does do everything it is advertised. I put this in my windowsill for automatic charging from the sun. Hand crank also works if you want to use that as does the provided cable to plug in. Only disappointment is the antenna does not pull in as many stations as I would like but is still great if you lose power or other emergency and the portability is great. Purchased in yellow for visibility..
