Whynter NEX Inverter Dual Hose Cooling Portable Air Conditioner, 12,000 BTU (10,000 BTU SACC), 500 sq ft, ARC 1030WN

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have had the unit for just over a month now, and it is incredible how fast it cools down a bedroom and how relatively little upkeep there is! Its effect on the power bill is not bad at all for what it is, and if central cooling cannot or does not cool down your desired space, this is a perfect option for efficacy and efficiency. When going at full fan speed and compressor output it is somewhat loud, but once the room is cooled, the temperature upkeep is very quiet for an A/C unit. It's definitely big enough to do a decently sized living space but if you're getting it for a bedroom, a separate humidifier or a smaller rated unit could be ideal due to the increased humidity it could present. I don't even have to drain water because internally it takes care of most of the condensation itself, and it has an external drain hose you can leave on it connected to a jug or container - the amount that leaks externally though is so small that it too evaporates before ever being an issue. My only real criticism is the setup, while technically portable, is janky and may require a bit of DIY if your window is small. If ever having to insulate a second window, it would definitely require hardware store trips. The insulation they have is mediocre and, depending on your window, may also necessitate a trip to a local store for thicker and/or more insulation foam. Once it is set up however, it essentially maintains itself outside of the carbon filter that needs replaced once or twice a year.
