LEGO City Mail Plane 60250 Building Set for Kids (74 Pieces)

There is something about the look of this set that makes me like it. I have had the opportunity to have to look at it for a long time and I liked it so much I recently bought two more to modify them to fit into some different scenes on my shelf. The modifications can be done relatively easily as the ski and the smallest technic tire have the same hight to the centre of the axle hole. All that is required is swapping the friction pins out for non-friction ones, and the skis for tires. As for the build experience it was good, small steps that I think a 5 year old could follow without problems. There are no big chassis/half-finished-vehicle parts. Apart from the vertical stabilizer they are just the regular generic Lego bricks that can be easily reused in vehicles or buildings or whatever else human imagination can come up with. I think that is why I like it so much, it has the look of a 90's set. Slightly modernized, but very similar shapes and colours (if we forget about the skis for a moment). I mentioned that the bricks are no big halfdone vehicles. I regard that as a good thing. Sure it will take a bit longer before the thing is built, but that teaches patience, or well that time should be spent building, isn't that what Lego is about? The building instructions are easy to follow and thereby a great way to teach how to read and follow technical instructions. As I write this review Lego has the set labelled "retiring soon" but I hope they will have a similar small set in the works.
