The biggest cheer competition of the year was supposed to be the easy one.
Abby Winters has earned a relaxing weekend. Her daughter Ashley and the Aces of Cherry City have already locked up their spot in the championship finals, which means no pressure, no nerves, and plenty of time for shopping and a nice dinner in Chicago. After a season full of chaos, Abby is more than ready for one quiet competition where nothing goes wrong.
Then she pokes her head behind the curtain of a pop-up shop and finds Brenda of Brenda's Bows dead on the floor with a knife in her chest.
Just like that, the widowed ice cream shop owner is right back where she keeps landing, in the middle of a murder. Worse, the detective on the case seems to think the woman who found the body might be the woman who put it there. With a suspicious cop watching her every move and her name getting whispered around the vendor hall, Abby has to clear herself before the weekend is over.
The trouble is, almost everyone at this competition has something to hide. A grieving best friend who turns hostile the second Abby asks a single question. A bitter husband who can barely be bothered to mourn. A rival vendor who is a little too eager to help. And a brand-new bow shop that swoops in to take over Brenda's prime spot before her body is even cold.
When a threatening note slides under her hotel room door, Abby knows she is getting close. She also knows that whoever killed Brenda is still walking the halls, smiling at customers and selling bows, and would be more than happy to make Abby the next casualty of a cheer season that simply will not quit.
Between team practices, award ceremonies, and keeping her teenager fed, Abby has only a few short days to untangle a tangle of jealousy, secrets, and small business rivalry before the killer strikes again.
Can Abby catch a murderer before the final buzzer, or will this be one competition she does not walk away from?
