Raising the bowl for a Boxer isn't about health reasons, I continuous feed and they only eat when they're hungry--and they'd rather play and sleep than eat. I raised it to keep a visiting little dog from eating her food, but it turns out that she is MORE COMFORTABLE with a raised eating experience versus eating off the floor. She has started to eat more often now, not often enough to be concerned about weight gain at all (she is a highly active dog; I take her to run almost every day), but now I'm not worried about her not growing to her full height (she's still a puppy and is turning one-year-old on Memorial Day).

I bought this feeder for my mastiff, and it works beautifully. The rug underneath is just to keep it in place; it's not large enough to catch anything that falls. However, I've noticed a significant difference in how my dog eats. I would buy this again if I had to. it fits just about any large bowel size and stays without the rug.
