An Excellent Gelcoat Finish, Fast The first step of a truly professional gelcoat finish, our Perfect-it Gelcoat Heavy Cutting Compound is our fastest-cutting compound for heavily-oxidized gelcoat surfaces. Its premium chemical and mineral formula quickly removes heavy oxidation, weathering, dulling, chalking and scratches P800 or finer. This formula leaves a high gloss finish — on many surfaces, a polishing step is not necessary before waxing. The compound also has a long wet time, allowing you to compound longer before you need new material. 1974 fiberglass top on a vintage pop-up camper

Knowing that my camper top had more than 40 years of gelcoat oxidation, I presumed there would be few products that could handle the job. 3M's heavy cutting compound met my expectations. I used 3M's 100% wool cutting pad and a variable speed rotary polisher. I followed the standard operating procedure in the 3M video.
