The hood is detachable, but I love it. The warmer, the better. It was well worth the cost, even at the non-sale price. I did have to go one up on the size though for a good fit. Fits true to size , the hood unzips , has lots of great pockets!!! The only thing is I wish the hood had a drawstring so you could tighten it around your face. It buckles up great under the chin tho so bonus for that too .
