If you lose the adapter that came w/ your Switch, you can still charge the device w/ a standard USB-C phone charger. Using the dock to play on a TV requires more power though. Finding an aftermarket replacement is nearly impossible. But if, like me, you feel you MUST try, take a look at the box/wall plug. before buying. You'll need to match the Switch adapter output (see pic) which is ≈ 15V/2.6A (compare THAT to your phone charger %26 it suddenly makes sense why that didn't work.) ✌️

I purchased this adapter from a Pro seller called Fastworld, fulfilled by Walmart. It came in Japanese packaging which made me question its authenticity. I compared this adapter to the original one that came with my Switch, and there are a handful of differences. The one from Fastworld is lighter, and the Nintendo engraving is noticeably more shallow (see photos - original charger is on the left). Additionally, the mold is missing the warning information as well as two parallel lines between the prongs. The Fastworld adapter states it was made in the Philippines, whereas my original adapter was made in China. It's not the different country of origin that is concerning, but rather the differences in the product itself. Planning on returning to be safe.
