The straw is very rubbery and soft. It is easy to grip, and does not really spill when it is tipped over. I really like the color, and it does fine in the dishwasher, but I do always wash it on the top shelf just in case. It keeps the drink cold, but not exorbitantly long. It does hold a good amount though. Enough to bring to a game and have enough to drink for an hour.
