No luck

Simply put, it didn't work as advertised. I installed the wiring and got the same error message as before. The fans simply sped up with the new wiring. I tried to revert to the original wiring pattern without much success. The lesson learned: don't build using off the shelf parts and expect them to mesh perfectly with proprietary parts and wiring (incidentally, mine is a Dell Alienware Aurora R7) .
