This elastic will give you about an inch of stretch room as you move about and go through the day. When choosing a size, please take your pant size and go up one. My husband like this belt. Normally he wears a 46/48" belt. Had to return the 46" which he does wears a size 44 pant, but it was way too short, so exchange it for a 50" belt. He was glad he did, because when he sits down, the belt would stretch out, so this is why he wanted a stretch belt with hidden elastic.
