Great for meat AND candy!
I have an old school candy thermometer that is glass. I have a hard time reading the lines with everything steaming up. I got this delivered and tried it out that day. I made a batch of fudge and it turned out perfectly. No more dropping drops in cold water to test. This thermometer saved me time and money. (ever ruin a batch of candy because it wasn't the right temperature?). The next day I made a batch of home made toffee. It set exactly like it was supposed to set with no sugar crystals. I wish I would have had one of these long before this. If you like to make candy, this really is a must have in the kitchen.

I love this thermometer and the fact that it has a magnet on it. I just leave it on the side of my refrigerator next to my stove, and this way it won't get lost in a drawer. Works like a charm and I like the length of it. The controls are easy to work and the temp is not instantaneous, but it doesn't take that long for a reading. I love the light on it too. If you forget to turn it off, it will turn off by itself too. Would purchase again if need be, and the price is right!
