This keyboard and mouse combo replaces another manufacturer's failed (after 2 years use) product of similar capabilities. The keyboard requires only 1 battery, as opposed to it's predecessor (dead). The mouse from both manufacturers work the same way and require 2 batteries. The most important difference is the independence of the mouse from the keyboard. The replaced product somehow required both mouse and keyboard to have all components working (fresh batteries specifically) for each individually to work.
