Hamilton CapTel makes it possible to listen while reading word-for-word captions of everything said to a user on the phone - similar to captions on television. You dial the other person's number, the same way as with any other telephone. As you dial, the phone automatically connects to a no-charge captioning service. Through the captioning service, captions are generated through voice recognition technology, provided by a live Communications Assistant, and appear directly on the large, built-in screen of the phone. The service is available nationwide, 24/7. The Hamilton CapTel 840i phone also offers several other valuable features, such as adjustable volume amplification, the ability to save captions for review later, and answering machine functionality (those messages are also captioned with just the touch of a button).

The large screen of the Hamilton CapTel phone is an excellent assistant in reading what you often cannot hear. The volume control increases the loudness of this wonderful phone by 40 Decibels. And the dialing buttons on this phone are extra large for ease of use.

Hi good afternoon I purchased this phone for my mother for Mother's Day gift. My mother truly love this. She can't stop playing with it. She said she enjoy reading it reading the conversation that is and she can hear very well. The only thing that she don't really like about it is the ringer is extremely loud. She hasn't figured out how to turn it down yet, but it's OK. She still left the phone.

Purchased this as a second unit for my dad who's all but lost all hearing. It's been difficult to call because he no longer hears my voice unless I'm shouting. This is the same style unit that he has had and stored after his own brother - who had a similar loss of hearing - passed away years ago. I installed this seamlessly and after a series of firmware updates the unit worked. There can be some issues when calling from my vehicle as the unit can't transcribe what I'm saying and dad tells me that it says that my words are too garbled. But dad now has started calling me with the device and we actually have resumed having conversations again. Really, we are at our last option because all of the hearing aids simply can't perform for him anymore. There's a slight delay as the unit processes words from my speech and yet this beats yelling into my cell all the time. It is nice to feel comfortable resuming phone calls once again.
