Seachoice Open Based Galvanized Dock Cleat

I needed a quantity of these for the perimeter of my boat dock. After shopping around, I found that Walmart.com definitely had the best price on them. The casting quality is good on these but you may want to consider the size. I ordered the 6 inch ones, thinking that they would be adequate for my purpose. After receiving them, I wished that I had ordered the 8 inch ones. The larger size on a cleat, is not only more length, but also width and a larger hole sized opening to slide a mooring rope through. After reviewing that the 8 inch cleats are twice the price, I am going to make do with the 6" ones that I received. Another thing to note if you order these is the type of screw/bolt hole openings that you need. One model has a hex-head shaped opening for a hex-head bolt, to go completely through the mounting surface, with a washer and nut on the underside. The other style is designed to accommodate a large, tapered, flat or oval head wood screw. In either case, use stainless steel screws or bolts to mount this cleat. Otherwise, the fasteners will rust away in time and render the cleat useless.
