Purchased the 14,800BTU for a very small pool (7'x11' rectangular above ground, 52" deep, approx 2750 gallons). Pool is located in Maine. Weather in late May/early June had been 60s and 70s during the day, and 50s at night. Starting water temp was 64 degrees. Three days of running the heater 24/7 with solar cover on, and the water temp reached a high of 89 before I shut it off and added cold water. Pool gets a fair amount of sun and the third day had warmer than expected air temp of 90 degrees. Still, this pool generally loses 10 degrees at night and gains some of it back during the day, depending on temperature and sun. Never has it reached a temp of over 80, and certainly not with cold night temps in the first week of June. So, very happy thus far! The heater does restrict flow, enough that it renders the in wall skimmer useless. But I don't mind the extra maintenance in exchange for the warmer water.

great alternative to a traditional pool heater

My husband found this while looking into a natural gas pool heater. I am so grateful he did. Running a gas line plus the heater would've cost us about 3k. Our pool has been at times 84 degrees. It's only early June and the temps haven't gotten to summer ones yet here in Southern Wisconsin. We love this heat pump!
