You have to hold it completely straight and breathe out your mouth, but once you get used to it usually the second time you're just fine.

Don't pay extra for the caddy!
Do not fall victim, as I did, and pay more for the item that includes the storage caddy. There's a coupon inside the box for a free caddy by mail. Now, the nasal cleaner itself is great. I've struggled my entire life with seasonal allergies. During cold and flu season those sinus issues increase tremendously. I finally gave in and purchased the Navage after seeing countless ads and hearing testimonials from other users. Yes, it's weird and a completely odd process and feeling but afterwards…ahh clean nasal passages and clear breathing! Sweet relief! If you're on the bubble about it, and you struggle with clear breathing, just do it. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
