Seagate ExpansionPLUS 8TB External Hard Drive - USB 3.0 with Rescue Data Recovery (STKR8000400)

I was surprised at the quality . I generally dont like hardrives, but 8TB was to temping to pass up as a backup . I did a full low level format when I got it .... which took like 3-4 days . The speed is not impressive of course , but the capacity is so large i can litterally make folders on it that sais " SSD 3" . This is purely for backup purposes . This drive wont be used once it makes it past the multi day writing process . Dont expect performance, expect capacity for cheap . 8TB is quite a lot for a bit over 100$

I was in a bit of a hurry to replace some external drives that were getting full. This looked like a similar thing with twice the capacity, and a reasonable price for it. I assumed that the form factor was similar as the proportions looked the same in the picture. I was shocked to see that they actually take up about three times the volume of the ones I replaced with these, and they require an extra power source. They don't get enough power just from the USB port, I guess. However, other than making me resolve to check the physical dimensions of external drives more carefully in the future, they don't disappoint too much, and seem like they'll do okay for me. But if your use case requires easy portability, look for a smaller device! There are ones that can fit in a pocket, but these are not those.
