I bought these to help my hubs start our wood fire, because I told them they have to make somethg that doesn't cause all this smoke in the house! These things are NICE TO HAVE. They almost eliminate the need for kindling, but i still recommend you use some bark or thinly cut wood that will catch fairly easy at the bottom. If you have little to no kindling, maybe use 2 and be patient. They last between 5-10 minutes depending on wind and keep constant flame on whatever is above it. Simply light the cup, make sure its burning well, and build your stack from small to large from there. You'll be the fire-master, just don't tell you cheated!
